Principles & Practices

This statement is established in accordance with the objectives of the Northwest Arkansas Kennel Club. Adherence to these Principles and Practices is expected of all members. Habitual disregard for these stated Principles and Practices shall be grounds for expulsion from the club after due consideration by the Board of Directors.

1. I will observe the highest standards of good sportsmanship and good will at shows, obedience and agility trials and any other events involving dogs, behaving always in a fair and courteous manner.

2. I will assist all newcomers to the sport of purebred dogs so that they may be guided in the ways that can best serve and promote the dog fancy.

3. I will at all times comport myself as a responsible dog owner, not allowing my dog/dogs to run at will or behave in a nuisance like manner and always picking up after them when off my own property. I will respect other people's property, such as motel/hotel rooms and grounds, match sites, etc.

4. I will maintain the highest possible standard of health, cleanliness and care of all my dogs, never confining them to my premises by tying them up.

5. If I breed dogs I will:

a. Breed only AKC registered dogs and bitches that have passed the health tests recommended by my breed's Parent Breed Club.
b. Breed only AKC registered dogs and bitches that have no disqualifying faults according to their breed standard.
c. Sell only to responsible persons and refuse to knowingly deal with unethical breeders, pet shops, wholesalers, or any other commercial dog dealer.
d. Sell all dogs with a written contract, keeping and passing on to the buyers accurate health, breeding, pedigree and registration records.
e. Urge that all stock not purchased as show and breeding stock be spayed or neutered, withholding papers until proof is offered or using a limited registration.

6. I will not donate an animal for research, unless it is to the study of a specific breed defect by a veterinarian. I will not sell a dog to a pet shop, animal broker commercial kennel, for experimental purpose. I will not sell or donate an animal as a prize for any purpose.
